    We do not give all kids rich academic and nonacademic opportunities.  The only way to really try to level the playing field is to give the kids who we have failed for years a better academic and extracurricular expiernce.

How One STEM School Aims to Lower the Achievement Gap.
 
Rationale:
To improve students' motivation and achievement in learning of science and technology.

Target: 

1. To bridge the gap and to improve core learning context by applying design-based activities to challenge students' higher order thinking skills. 

 

2.  To change the school direction twoards innovative approach and to promote meaningful relationship among school communities.

Professional Journal:

McKinley Technology High School in Washionton D.C. has established itself as a Title I STEM magnet school.  By using STEM education, teachers can implement more project-based curriculum in STEM fields.  Students began learning through self-teaching manipulatives.

"By Developing science literacy in all students and investigating community-based learning as a potential resource for educational support are key concepts to close the STEM achievement gap between students of different ethnicities, English language proficiencies, and income levels" (Sarbanes, 2012, p.3)
